Rush is CS2’s new queued 3v3 mode, introduced on September 23, 2026. It arrived alongside a new Premier map-selection process, silent reloading and a rebuilt crosshair menu. Here is how the main changes work.
Rush: fight through the arenas to the enemy castle
Instead of playing a conventional defusal match, two teams of three battle through a sequence of arenas. The objective is to advance to the opposing castle and capture it. Arena selection changes between matches, so the route is not fixed.
Winning a round requires control of the tower when the enemy team is eliminated or time runs out. Eliminations and objective control therefore belong to the same plan: clearing the opponents is not a reason to ignore the tower. Valve also added a friends leaderboard for tracking Rush wins.

Premier replaces bans with four map picks
The September update replaced the process of banning down to one map. Each team now contributes two maps, and the game randomly selects one of the four. The order in the official notes is:
Step | Selection |
|---|---|
1 | Team 1 picks one map. |
2 | Team 2 picks two maps. |
3 | Team 1 picks its second map. |
4 | One of the four maps is selected at random. |
Valve’s stated aim is to give players more opportunities to use the maps they have been learning. In practical terms, a team should prepare both its own choices and the possibility of playing an opponent’s pick.
Silent reloading trades speed for discretion
Holding the reload key now performs a slower, silent reload. The trade-off is explicit: reducing the sound cue takes more time. This can matter when trying to remain unnoticed, but a longer reload also means a longer interval before the weapon is ready. Leaving the scope on a sniper weapon no longer produces a sound.
Crosshair settings get a dedicated home
The new Crosshair/Scopes tab groups the revised options. Valve introduced additional shapes, made crosshairs resolution-independent and changed the default to Dynamic Quad, intended to represent weapon accuracy more clearly.

Clan tags, map fixes and smaller additions
Steam Community Group members can again choose a clan tag from their player profile. Stickers can now be applied to C4, music volume can be adjusted per mode, and the Starjunk 95 music kit joined the store. Ancient, Cache, Mirage and Train received geometry or clipping corrections.
The patch also updated Source 2, improved the clarity of bullet-impact decals and expanded Workshop tools for custom minimaps, skyboxes and death-camera boundaries. The grenade limit setting now additionally caps how many grenades a player can purchase in a round.
