August’s CS2 patches combined gameplay fixes with a larger set of tools for community map creators. The September 10 update followed with Cache corrections and new rules for chat in demos.
Grenades, movement and Cache
On August 3, Valve fixed grenades passing through level geometry. Cache received collision and gap fixes, reduced asset flickering and the removal of a boost in Outside A. On August 20, a movement fix addressed excessive speed when travelling against walls.
Shelter was updated on August 3; Fachwerk and Shelter on August 13; Boulder and Poseidon on August 20. The September 10 Cache patch fixed a B-site wallbang spot and added a missing competitive CT spawn plus extra T spawns.
Custom interfaces for Workshop maps
The August 25 update introduced custom_hud_layout, with Panel, Label, Image and Button support and CSS styling. It also added a camera entity that can control a player’s view without moving their character. The update did not support client-side scripting or events in these custom interfaces.
September’s follow-up renamed the camera to CustomPlayerCamera, expanded its controls and added options governing whether spectators see a custom HUD. New HUD state classes expose when the buy menu or scoreboard is visible.
What changed in demos?
On September 10, chat encryption adopted CS:GO-style rules: team chat is no longer readable in demo playback, while global chat can be read only when the demo is played through the in-game watch interface. That distinction matters when reviewing matches or sharing recordings.
